As we continue our journey into 2025, New Year’s resolutions may be in the rearview mirror for many of us. Whether you never made a resolution, already gave up on it as most do by “Quitter’s Day”, or you’re struggling with the ones you endeavored to try, the following may be of interest.
First, it’s never too late to make decisions to improve your life with changes.
We may be “creatures of habit” but we don’t have to resolve ourselves to whatever state we’re comfortable with.
God says in Romans 12:1-2 “...present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God…..be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”; Our Creator gives us messages throughout scripture encouraging us to continue to transform ourselves into His character.
We have an obligation to Him and ourselves to continue to do our part to work on ourselves towards being ready for His eternal kingdom (which we know is very soon). The following may be helpful tips for successful goal-setting and managing our change process. Since this is a wellness blog, we will focus more on health improvements. However, these tips are useful in all areas of our lives.
May God bless each of you with good health and success in all your “resolutions” and efforts to serve Him more in 2025!

Goal-Setting Tips for Success:
Pray First: Always ask God what is the most important goal(s) you should work on now
Thoughtful questions: Is goal in line with my long-term goals? Answer these: Who, What, When, Where, How, Why
Write it down; Review goal and pray/asking God to help you with it daily; journal it
Calendar it; Put it in your phone alarm to remind you daily; Place reminder notes in key places
Make S.M.A.R.T. goals:
Specific: What do you want to accomplish?
Measurable: How can you measure your progress?
Achievable: Do you have the skills to accomplish the goal?
Relevant: Is the goal connected to what you want to achieve?
Time-bound: When do you want to accomplish the goal?
Example: Weight loss goal
S = Lose 30 Lbs.
M = Weekly weighing or measuring body parts in inches
A = Choose a method: (specific diet, specific exercise, class, counseling, buddy-system)
R = Reason for the weight loss goal (fit into dress size for specific event; improve specific health problem; be able to hike again)
T = 6 months
